When given tasks and projects, many employees would rather just stick with the tasks which they originally signed up for. More often, they will only exert a little amount of effort when asked to go an extra mile. Some employees may even say the following reasons-
“I only get paid to do this task, so why would I do that?“
“I will do it later since it’s not my real task. I have more important tasks to do.“
“It’s not my fault why the job was left undone. Why should I do it?“
There are many other reasons why we fail to accomplish our tasks but having the wrong attitude shouldn’t be one of it. We need to find a way to eliminate our negative tendencies if we would like to become successful employees and be seen as future leaders. According to experts, we can always start by adopting a positive attitude by simply doing the following-
- Take accountability for all tasks or projects that you are part of.
- Prepare, plan and execute accordingly so you don’t end up wasting valuable time.
- Do tasks immediately to create some space for new tasks.
- Do more than is expected especially if it involves helping other employees.
As Employees, we are always expected to do what we can with the roles that we signed up for. We can always enrich ourselves and become more valuable for the company by doing more of what’s expected. In order to become a better employee, you should always look forward to contribute more to your organization and become a positive influence to other people. Your willingness to serve will go a long way and can increase your value not only as an employee- but also as a person who’s willing to help people.
